Kevin Lyle was born in October 1951. After brief flirtations with the law and British television he settled upon education as a vocation and today the Lyle Language School in south-west London is an acknowledged leader in the field of teaching foreign languages to young ladies.

However in recent times, somewhat to his own embarrassment, he has perhaps become best well known in Britain for his one-man crusade to challenge stereotypical perceptions of what a fifty-something can achieve in modern professional sport.

He has two children from his first marriage; son Roswell and daughter Grace, both in their twenties; and in February 2005, after a landmark legal victory over EC equal opportunity and species discrimination rights in the High Court, entered a civil partnership with his mongrel dog Scud.
